Introducing
Janus AirWool – The Next Generation of Merino – Next generation wool garments – knitted in Norway
After 130 years of continuous production, Janus Wool has achieved what few textile manufacturers can claim: not only to endure, but to continually reinvent itself.
Founded in 1895, Janus Wool is the last remaining Norwegian manufacturer to knit all its garments in-house at its historic factory in Espeland. For over a century, the company has combined traditional craftsmanship with modern technology -- united by a deep respect for natural materials.
Now, Janus is entering a new era with the launch of Janus AirWool® -- a groundbreaking innovation in wool technology.
Janus AirWool
Janus AirWool® uses an advanced brushing technique on the inside that traps air between the fibers, creating a natural insulation layer. The result is enhanced warmth, breathability, and extraordinary softness -- all without the use of synthetic fibers.
Representing the next generation of merino wool, AirWool is warmer, softer, and lighter than conventional fabrics. Designed for those who move effortlessly between mountain peaks and city streets, the collection blends high performance, comfort, and timeless design. Every detail is crafted with function, freedom of movement, and a natural feel against the skin in mind.
This launch also signals a bold new chapter for Janus Wool as the brand steps confidently into the premium sports and outdoor segment.
International Recognition: ISPO Award Winner 2024
Janus Wool is the first company in the world to introduce this unique technology. Janus AirWool® has been awarded the prestigious ISPO Innovation Award 2024, often referred to as the “Oscar” of the sports industry.
The jury praised the brushed interior, the exceptional softness, and Janus’s ability to enhance the natural properties of merino wool without synthetics.
“It is great to see that innovation is still possible with natural fibers, especially in the production of textiles and without the need to integrate synthetic fibers,” the ISPO jury stated.
“We are passionate about wool and see wool as it our best friend. Developing an innovation like Janus AirWool®, which enhances the natural properties of wool, is like making wool an even better friend to all outdoor enthusiasts out there” says Cathrine Stange, CEO of Janus Wool.
